How to Alter Your Own Jeans

I have a love/hate relationship with jeans. I wear them everyday, but it’s so hard to find a pair that fits right. Last year, I had a pair that fit great in every place except the waist. They would slide down and look gappy, so I had them altered. When I got them back, they fit great, and it looked like something I could even pull off myself. The next time I was at H&M, they were having a sale on jeans, and I found a pair that would be perfect for experimenting.

Awesome Handmade Gift: A Knit Stuffed Hippo

This summer, my craft group friends taught me how to knit, and I was really enthusiastic about learning a new skill. For my first project, I wanted to take on something adventurous for my one-year-old niece, Anna. After spending hours looking at projects on Ravelry, I had my heart set on this adorable Hippo by Susan B. Anderson. I ordered the yarn, borrowed needles from Janel, and went out to buy the book Itty-Bitty Toys (less than $12 on Amazon!).

How to Make IKEA Furniture Any Color You Want

When I was setting up my new office, I had this image of the IKEA Expedit (the one with the cubby holes) in red against my wall. I really really wanted a red Expedit, but I knew this wasn’t going to happen. Since IKEA furniture is made of particleboard, it’s not very easy to stain or paint without a lot of prep work, and even then sometimes it doesn’t work out.

For some reason, I thought it would be a great idea to cover every piece of the Expedit in contact paper before I built it. In theory, this was a great idea because it looked good once I was finished. In actuality, the cost and time might not be worth it for some people.

My Homemade Princess Peach Costume

Jon and I love to play Nintendo. In the past couple of years we’ve gone through phases of NES Super Mario Bros 1 and 3 (sorry Mario 2), NES Super Mario World, N64 Super Mario 64, N64 Paper Mario, Wii Super Mario Galaxy, and Wii Super Mario Brothers. We love the games; we love the characters. This year, there was no other option than to dress up as Princess Peach and Super Mario Fireball (except that I kind of wanted him to be Raccoon Mario).

How Not To Dye Your Bleached Hair Back to Natural

The Daisy Colored Hair has been an amazing summer look, but the maintenance is getting a little rough. Going to the salon every 5 weeks for a touchup is a little pricey, and the touchup process HURTS! I didn’t have a problem when I bleached my hair with the Manic Panic Flash Lightening Kit, but the salon stuff is brutal. The first month they used volume 40 bleach, and that was really rough. From there on out, I asked for volume 30, but it still is just something I don’t want to endure any longer. It burns, itches, and makes my scalp bleed =( So I guess that just means it’s time to move on to a new hair color! » Read more…

How to Bleach Your Hair From Brown to White

In April 2008, I was dying my hair black. Two years later, I’ve made it through a variety of reds, browns, and blonde highlights, but now I’m ready to go for it. Platinum!

I had never done a blonde a few shades lighter than my own light brown hair because I’ve always been afraid of the chemicals and the damage it will do to my hair. Worst case scenario is I have to cut my hair really short or have a professional fix it!
